Lets Bake A Cake!

Ok, I know what you're thinking, what does baking a cake have to do with anything? Well, Think about it, there's like a hundred different ways to make a chocolate cake, not including the frosting. The ingredients in a chocolate cake is pretty much the same maybe with substitutions here and there or how long to bake it, if there is filling on the inside or if someone is using powdered sugar to cover the top or chocolate frosting. Ok I can't do this without sounding completely stupid, I was going to talk to you about cake, metaphorically of course, but let me just cut to the chase. What ever your field of study or career maybe it is always great to have a mentor or study partner, someone to lean on and learn from. What I don't want you to do is lose yourself trying to achieve greatness from their path. What I'm getting at is YES, listen to them, they have been there and done that probably twice. They have weathered a few storms and can keep you from venturing into the Bermuda triangle and never seeing your dreams come true. Don't misunderstand me, guidance is good, but not everyone learns the same or sees things in the same light. For instance a sous chef learns from the chef so that one day when they run their very own kitchen they will know the dos and don'ts of a typical kitchen, but what makes their kitchen different then their predecessor is THEM. Like that chocolate cake I was telling you about, one person may bake their cake with regular flour and semi dark chocolate and another person may bake their cake with almond flour and cocoa powder. It may look different and taste different, but in the end its still a chocolate cake, a cake you can call your own. So when all is said and done, after all the training and advise and learning, can you say your craft reflects you or the person or people who influenced it? Are you their mini me, a carbon copy of them or are you, YOU! Remember to take what you need and don't compromise what makes you, you, because what God has for you no one else can do or take from you. So who's ready to bake a cake?
